NYC Just Had Its Safest Summer Ever

New York City recorded its safest summer since records began, according to data released by the NYPD on September 3.

From June through August, the city had fewer shooting incidents, shooting victims, and murders than in any previous year.

The decline is part of a broader reduction in violent crime under the Mamdani administration. Year to date, murders are down by over 24% compared to the same period in 2025.

The Bronx has recorded the largest year-to-date decline in major crime among the five boroughs, down 11.9%. Auto theft, grand larceny and shootings have all fallen substantially in the borough.

Public housing and the subway system have also recorded significant declines. Public housing saw zero murders in August, while shootings, shooting victims, rapes and robberies reached record lows for the month. In the subway system, there were no murders, shooting incidents, shooting victims or reported rapes in August. Transit robberies also reached their lowest August level on record, and the month saw anti-Jewish hate crimes drop by 13.6% compared to the same period last year.

Overall, the latest figures show broad declines in shootings, murders and several other major crime categories across New York, with particularly strong reductions in the subway, public housing and the Bronx.
